Education and Training

Harmony, helpfulness and heritage are the hallmarks of Robeson County and it’s people. Committed to fostering old-fashioned values and a "small-town" intimacy, Robeson embodies a traditional lifestyle.

Interstate 95, the primary highway on the East Coast, bisects Robeson County. This makes an ideal location for new industry even better. This large county can support numerous businesses. Also U.S. 74 has been designated an Interstate highway and upgrading is under way.

Boasting a diverse industrial base, companies produce everything from canned soup and tennis shoes to the pulp that is imprinted for legal tender.

Working to further diversify industry and provide a more stable economy, county leaders seek new, nonpolluting industries to occupy some 13,000 acres available for business expansion and relocation. Robeson’s workforce is another element that ensures economic success in the county. A labor force of over 200,000 people drawn from a thirty-mile radius promises that demands for skilled, plentiful labor can be satisfied here. Any task necessary can be fulfilled via current workforce availability or training through Robeson Community College which is located on I-95 in Lumberton, the County Seat.

One of the most important keys to success is communication. From one on one in family and teaching situations, to the group formats of the many non-profits, schools, churches, civic clubs - to the newest electronic systems. WNCP-TV emanating from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, teleconferencing and programming at Robeson Community College, North Carolina Information Highway in six high schools, and telemedicine at Southeastern Regional Medical Center are all major players in this rapidly growing field of technology.

North Carolina’s Community College system ranks with the best in the country. The immediate need for new and expanding industry is the ability of the system to respond quickly to the training (or retraining) needs of the industry they support. Robeson Community College is a leader in the system for job training.
